today...

‘love today’, digital collage after a drawing/painting in a sketchbook

‘Today is the first day of the rest of my life’
(John Denver sang that  in 1969)
I was in high school when I heard this quote and I wrote it on every page of my notebooks. I think it was the first time that I understood that you could put so much meaning in just a few words. The feeling that you can start over everyday, that from this day on your life can be totally different, was so uplifting and hopeful to me.
Being much older now, funny enough this still feels true to me, although I tend to think less about future when I think of ‘today’.
Being  this age I know that the only real life we have is this day, this very day. Nothing more, but also nothing less. So I want to cherish this day to the fullest, being aware of the miracle that life is, no matter how horrible we humans tend to make it sometimes for ourselves and others.
